HOFBURG PALACE

THE HAPSBURG SEAT OF POWER.

Originally, the Imperial Place in Vienna was a fortress built in the thirteenth century. The monument has been witness to the extremely long reign of the Hapsburg Dynasty, from the thirteenth century through the fifteenth century when they led the holy roman Empire and on to the end of the monarchy in 1918.
Each generation changed the structure and modified the layout to produce a building complex that spans more than 240,000 square metres with 18 wings, 19 courtyards and 2,600 rooms.

Visitors can tour the Imperial Apartments, discover the Sissi Museum and admire the masterpieces of the art of the table displayed as part of the Imperial Silver Collection.

These days the Hofburg is much more than a royal palace, but also an artistic and cultural forum and meeting place that boasts a dozen international collections. The general public can now access the palace as never before enjoying the park, squares, restaurants and cafés.
