Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, the "Sambodrome" in Rio is also known as the Avenida da Marquês de Sapucaí… The original design was meant to offer locals a special setting for the numerous parades organised by the Samba schools throughout the year. Inaugurated in 1984, the 700m-long structure can accommodate up to 88 000 spectators.
