The historic centre of the city of Porto was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1996. Located at the mouth of the River Douro, the history of the city is represented by this well preserved district from its creation by the Romans to present day.
The listed area includes the medieval village within the fourth century Roman walls. Other listed streets include the old quarter of Miragaia, the cathedral, the Exchange and Chafariz das Virtudes.
A stroll in this district will unveil the rich history of Porto.
