THE OBELISK, VISIT

ALL YEAR LONG

ARGENTINE PRIDE.

The Obelisk is one of the main monuments in Buenos Aires. It overlooks one of the widest avenues in the world and is one of the city's principal landmarks, standing around 67 metres tall.

Built in the 1930s by the architect Alberto Prebisch to commemorate the fourth centenary of the foundation of the city, it recalls the purism of the Egyptian style and is a symbol of Argentine pride. Argentines gather here for major events such as the demonstrations against Aids, when the Obelisk is covered with red cloth.
